Iam currently reading "Six Pillars of Self-Esteem. I always prided myself on thinking I had high self-esteem, but as I move forward in recovery Im learning in some areas I need alot of work. On flexibility: To be flexible is to be able to respond to change w/o inappropriate attachments binding one to the past. A clinging to the past in the face of new & changing circumstances is itself a product of insecurity, a lack of self-trust. Rigidity is often the response of the mind that does not trust itself to cope with the new or master the unfamiliar, or that has simply become complacent or even solvenly. Flexibility in contrast, is the natural consequence of self-esteem. A mind that trusts itself is light on its feet, unemcumbered by irrelevant attachment, able to respond quickly to novelty because it is opening to seeing. And when I read this it pushed me back into my reality with my poa, that I have made the right decision, and I have to stop with the "what if's". It is really not important anymore what he is doing, or who he is doing it with. What is important now is ME. And growing into the person that I want to be. This gave me a different slant on thinking about my poa and i hope it will help others also.

Wow, good excerpt. I'll look that book up, self-esteem is a huge part of why I get so attached to POAs (I think so, anyway). After reading your post, Carolyn I feel a lot more confident on my decision of blocking POA on facebook. I need to get this attachment out and help me by minimizing the things that might remind me of it. Thanks

Hello Friends i think that low self esteem could indicate depression disorders, so there may be more problems to perform out in therapy. However, one factor you could do is create two positive things about your self each day in a notebook. In a few several weeks you will have a lot of positive things about yourself that you can re-read if your self esteem is particularly poor. Thanks!!
