I'm taking this hard because she was an addict and music was always a huge part of my life (before my love addiction ensued) and I am devastated hearing this news right now!!!! They dont know the cause of death, but she was only 48, that's 6-7 years older than me. And it hits home because I almost died myself last year. I grew up with Whitney Houston in the '80s, and sorry, but this is absolutely heartbreaking, and I hate seeing a great talent lose the battle to addiction!!!!  |

Dang, this is horrible news, I was so hoping this news would never come. She was such a huge huge talent. But as you hear in the meeting rooms all the time, our addictions do not discriminate. Just keep her daughter and her family in your prayers.

Yes, I had CNN on already in the background, and the anchor kind of announced it with not much warning. I was surprised by my reaction, first shock, and then just started crying. You don't realize the things you appreciate until you lose them I guess sometimes. I will definitely be praying for her daughter and family.

"Bobby Brown was my drug" -- I heard the news say that she once said this. I figured that Whitney Houston was also a love addict. Her friend says that she was not used to the kind of tension she had with her ex-husband. I can totally relate to that as a love addict. My recent ex was the most stressful and tense relationship I've ever had.
I see a lot of people saying stuff (not on this forum but elsewhere) like "I'm not surprised/shocked, she had a drug problem and abused her body. Drug addicts die." I HATE when non-addicts say stuff like that! They say it smugly as if it's her fault that she had a disease. I'm sick of the stigmas on mental illnesses and addictions. It truly pisses me off.
I'm no less "shocked" that she died just because she was an addict. The shock comes from losing someone who had so much good to offer us.
Anyway, it hits home for me when I see something bad happen to an addict that I admired.
