Yes thats absolutely true what you say about catrostofic thoughts and is in fact where i read about the court system to stop them !!!there where other ideas but that worked right away for me so i was very peased !!There is a course on a web site listed on the recovery section by me to teach you cognative thinking by a professor its free you just down load it stage by stage !!
I always find when its so negative it turns into catrostrofic its amazing to use the court system because 99 out of 100 times you are feeding your self the worst possible sinario you can think of to hurt yourself like you say and you have to admit imedeately that you do not know if its true or not and it works for me everytime !! it just stops right away because i am telling lies to myself !!

you soundlike your getting it nailed jonny , very inspiring! I think i tried one of the sites you posted before and couldnt register or something ?! whats really interesting too , is that often we are not really conciously doing this stuff to hurt ourselves as such its actually done through habit/fear so in a way we are trying to protect ourselves I think. I also think its part of the habit of those who are prone to drama. We hate the thought that the catastrophising produces but its also comforting us us to constantly feel those feelings. Being in pain feels 'normal'. Also once you get into the habit of cyclic thinking its hard to stop. hence the CBT.....oh it all sounds so easy doesnt it!!! winnie

Winnie.......You should have no trouble logging on to the two sites i listed if im not mistaken there was a link supplied on my posting !!!
I think lots of it is cause by disfuntional immotions like if its anger we should produce but we dont because we dont want to upset the partner we are addicted to so we change the immotion back onto ourselves in order to make ourselves suffer...
Its crazy when i first read this in Susan Perbodies book i was amazed and realise thats exactly what i had been doing all the time with my partner then my councillor at the time used to say to me wheres your anger and i had to answer i dont know.....
Then when i read the part in Susans book about disfunctional immotions i realised where it was hidden when substituted !!!
It all may sound easy but by god its not the pain we go through to get here is murder !!! But dont let it beat us NO WAY !!!
