I was talking today to a fellow friend who also has the courage to face his demons by going through therapy. One of the things we discussed were some of the lessons we learned. Together we came up with a "Top Ten Lessons Learned" List. Most of these you can learn elsewhere, but therapy is what made them stick for me:
1. Honesty is best with one self as well as others 2. Always look inward before blaming others for your issues 3. Make amends to those you have wounded 4. Adulthood equals owning one's mistakes without excuses 5. Everyone is a flawed human being and deserves compassion 6. It truly takes strength to face ones issues head-on and admit you need help 7. Empathy is one of the greatest signs of a fully-formed human being 8. Ability to communicate is a strong barometer of an individual's emotional and mental health 9. Grieving cannot be rushed 10. You cannot truly love someone else without having an inner seat, self-esteem and self-love
Some of these may not apply to you like #3, but again, I just wanted to share from my own journey.

This is a great list. Thanks for sharing it. #9 is so on, it took me years to get through some of the childhood grief, but well worth it as then #10 is there once the grief is processed out.
