I have a feeling this is a boundaries issue so I'm putting it here.
I need help not getting so distraught when friends cancel on me.
As a result of my sickness I've never had a lot of friends or people I can talk to. The only friends I have are people I've met quite recently. I'm going through a very tough time with withdrawal and I have a desire to share some of the tough feelings I'm having, along with some of the revelations I'm having. Is it normal to want to talk about what I'm going through?
I've alienated most of what friends I had because of my acting out while I was in the denial stage of addiction. I do have one or two friends still somewhat willing to listen and I tried reaching out to them, but one said she was busy and the other cancelled because she's sick. I'll see one of them at a party tonight but through experience I've found it's inappropriate and not beneficial to try and have a serious conversation at a busy party. I was trying to be good and find an appropriate time to talk about it. So how do I stop being so upset when people cancel on me?
I don't want to rely on my friends in an unhealthy way again, but at the same time keeping everything to myself feels wrong too. I feel like I'm doing myself a disservice by not meeting my need to share myself. What do I do?
