Exactly . . . My father was like a God to me and I followed him around like a puppy. So in early recovery I transferred all my love to the real God and then I got the unconditional love back that I craved. Then I transferred the love to Sandra and then Frank. Torchbearers need to transfer their affection. No contact is not enough for us because we keep fantasizing about our PoA no matter how far he or she is. People get upset when I talk about having romantic feelings for God but it is what I needed and it worked. I can still burst out in tears when I sing the song, "In the Garden" and "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." If you are not a Christian substitute the words "Your Higher Power."

I'm definitely a torch bearer. It is very painful.

I'm definitely a torch bearer. It is very painful. It is, but breaking through the denial and admitting the truth is the first step towards freedom and choosing something better for yourself. We will know the truth and the truth will set us free. Keep coming back and things will change, you will change.

EliSheva:
Remember this - although it is painful, there is less pain over time if you do the work.
If you don't do your self-work, you will not progress and be stuck where you are.
I used to say, "You don't get OVER pain, you get THROUGH it".
