I know for myself when I first came into recovery, the thing that I feared the most was change, I feared I would not still be myself, I would not still be the happy go lucky person that I was, and I realized that I had been running from my fears my whole life, I was scared of change, and I still struggle with this sometimes, but today I am aware of this, and I can calm my inner child and work through my fears.
I want to share my meditation from this morning, "Courage To Change" (coda-al-anon) I love the name of this book, because it does take "courage to change, and face our fears, and push through this".
Progress Not Perfection..
"No problem lasts forever. No matter how permanently fixed in the center of our lives it may seem today, whatever we experience in this ever-changing life is sure to pass. This too shall pass. Even pain.
Difficult situation often bring our qualities in us that otherwise might not have risen to the surface, such as courage, faith, and our need for one another. And yes, its very important now, we need each other in recovery, we can not recover alone.
All of our experiences can help us to grow in our life. We can learn from our pain also what is not acceptable in our life any longer. Being in constant pain is not the way we are suppose to live. Even is this is the only way we have ever lived, me included. pain and suffering is all I knew, nothing was easy in my life, and I would make everything harder than it really was.
We have 2 forks in the road to take, it is our choice...
One road leads to pain and suffering..
One road leads to peace and serenity..
Which road do you want to travel?
I never knew this either 5 years ago, I only traveled one road, and that was pain and suffering. But today I travel the road of peace and serenity. I can face today's calamity with serenity, and I could not have done this by myself, I needed my local fellowship, and this forum to help me, to guide me along the way, and I still need them today, to help me through the rough spots, and to also just be a forever friend in the fellowship. Recovery is a way of life for me today, it has and continues to save my life, and I will always be forever grateful to everyone who helped me along the way.
But we may need patience. Some wounds cannot be healed quickly. They must be given time. In the meantime we can appreciate the new capabilities we are developing, such as the capacity to mourn and the willingness to accept. Let us share our losses and triumphs with each other, for that is how we gather courage.
Today's Reminder:
Remembering that this too shall pass can make it easier to get through a difficult day.
I will be very gentle with myself during this time.
Some extra loving care and attention to myself can make everything a little easier."
Recovery is a design for living that works, if you work it, and you are worth it.
And even if you don't feel connected to some of the suggestions, this is only to help you build a strong foundation for yourself and your recovery, and it is like taking baby steps, and you will be able to stand up and make your own decision one day and you will know what is best for you and your life, and this is what is so awesome about recovery, when people who came into recovery are so beat down, and struggling with so much pain, and watching them grow, and when the light bulb goes off, and they get it, and you watch the flourish and grow, it is a wonderful thing.
This is how I started also, and it has not been that long ago, I will never forget the pain I have been through, I never want to go back to the hellish life I was living, I though I was living, I was just surviving in life, I was not living.
"A problem shared, is a problem cut in half"
Have a wonderful day!!!
You are not alone on your journey..
