I did not have much of this when I first got into recovery, people would ask me to do certain things, and I just did not have a lot of interest in doing the things that were suggesting to me, and then when no one was reaching out to me to see how I was doing, well I would get upset and get on my pity pot, and start saying no one loved or cared about me. Well what I had to learn is that no one was going to follow me around and tell me what I needed to do for myself and my recovery. It was also for the people who had been in recovery for awhile to really see how serious I was about this. It is too see if I could really follow the few instructions that they had given me. I did not do so good at first. I was use to stomping off in a huff, and not speaking to these people anymore, and getting on my pity-pot, and I would wait for them to come to me and tell me how to run my life. And this never happened, This caused me to realize that the world did not revolve around me any longer, if caused me to become humble, and it caused me to take responsibility for my life and the mistakes that I made....it cause me to GROW UP.
With this being said, I want to share this mediation on SELF DISCIPLINE...
"As long as there is still so much noise inside, so long will it be hard for others to approach you, except for those who look deeper and feel the undertow, the life current that never stops."
"There's a difference between FORCING ourselves to ACT and SELF DISCIPLINE.
SELF-DISCIPLINE comes from within. With it we feel the push to do something worthwhile, no matter how small.
FORCING OURSELVES to do something, on the other hand, usually reflects an authority outside ourselves. (We become rebellious)
We might make it a point to get to work on time because our boss says we have to, not because we want to. Or, we might go to a meetings because our sponsor says that's good, not because it is what WE HAVE CHOSEN.
FORCING OURSELVES may produce results, but for our addiction, this is not healthy. It reinforces our desire to rebel and have our own way. Letting go of our belief in willpower lessens the need to set up forces outside of ourselves to resist. (Spiritual Awakening) Still running on self will.
Somewhere inside of us, even if it's faint, is the sense of what's best for us, of what we truly want to do. We may fight it, but our HEART knows. And that's the right choice. To follow what's in our heart teaches SELF DISCIPLINE and brings SELF ESTEEM. "
"Joy, pleasure and serenity are mine each day when I stay centered and self disciplined."
You have to really want to recovery, no one is going to make you, and no one is going to follow you around making you do this.
Are you worth it??? Do you really want this?
