Positive thinking is pretty amazing and you can make significant changes in your life as a result of it. BUT-it's important to allow yourself to feel all of your emotions. Stuffing them away and deciding to focus only positively will only help so much when you feel awful. Please do not equate positive thinking with stuffing feelings. Positive thinking is only the last step. It comes after "feeling your feelings." I get your point however. We must not forgive or move on prematurely because we are pressured by a belief system like Christianity.
Identify emotion Talk about it Write about it Feel it Accept it Forgive Let go Move on Start at the beginning with new emotion or event . . .
Stuffing means keeping an emotion down in our unconscious and not letting it up into the conscious mind where you can process it.

This is such a great post. Thank you, Susan. I have lived my life based on positive thinking and only now in therapy am I realizing that I have really been stuffing my feelings. So much growth is happening now that I am letting those feeling through and accepting them as valid parts of my experience.
