I learned this in Alanon and was confused by this because I am a Christian and was told to love my neighbor and my enemy. But on the advice of my sponsor in AA, I did detach with love. I told negative people trying to hurt me I was going to love them from a distance.
Then I read that the Bible said love others as yourself so I thought I am going to love myself right now. I learned in recovery that the Bible is not perfect, no matter what they say, and biased against women. Apparently, the original gospels celebrated women (gnostic gospels) and the men through them out. But it is not about the Bible but the Holy Spirit who speaks for God and Jesus and she led a shepherd boy to a cave where they found the Gospel of Mary who it turns out was not a prostitute but Jesus's favorite disciple. When the men at the first convention threw it out they were not acting on God's behalf.
Meanwhile in Acts it says that Mary Magdalene was the first person to find Jesus in the tomb. She went back to the male disciples and Peter yelled at her and asked what made her so special that Jesus told her all the important information. Peter, apparently, had a temper like me but he changed and died a saint. Anyway Jesus probably told Mary the best stuff because she was more intelligent, intuitive, and listened more.
To make a long story short, it is ok to detach with love. Mary Magdalene did.
