I wish this weren’t getting in the way but it’s a big enough deal that it’s blocking me from inner child work.
Which likely means that I have quite a bit to unpack. Anywaze, here goes:
When we were little, my sister and i (I’m a twin) had short hair, and I hated every minute of it. I can barely look at pictures of my as a kid. Whenever I asked to have long hair like my classmates, my mom pointed out that we cried whenever we got our hair combed. I think short hair was also easier for her to style, because she has no talent with long hair (like making a braid, for example).
I wanted to have fun styles and hair accessories like other girls in my class. let’s be real, you can’t do much with a pixie cut—but felt really limited. I never grew it past shoulder length because I’d always revert back to what I was used to. Even when I was in my 20s I protested “but I don’t look good with short hair!” To which she fired back, “you think you look good with long hair?” Even as recent as last year when I went to visit, my mom pointed to my chin and said “you’d look good with that length”.
😩
ive always struggled with my looks. I’ll save more for a different thread, but nowadays I have an eating disorder that I just started therapy for. My hormones are messed up. I think long hair just makes me feel confident and pretty. It makes me sad because a lot of women I know find short hair to be very liberating.
(also some good news: I recently found a stylist who LOVES my hair! She’s encouraging me to grow it long, and she used a color that I always get compliments on!)
