Or Sex and Love addiction in 2 Samuel 11. We are studying that now in Bible Study.

Didn't King David's son rape his sister and then flee. This could be love addiction or just plain incest. Love Addiction has been around a long time. This is why I quote Soren Kierkegaard so much. In his book "Works of Love," he warns us about what he calls preferential love or romantic love. He says it can be habit forming and it is better to "love thy neighbor." Today, with what we know about the hazards of love addiction we can have both romance and spiritual love for others. Spiritual love is actually part of the cure for love addiction. I love to love. So in my early recovery, long before I met Frank, I channeled all my romantic feelings to my love of Christ. I guess I thought I was Mary Magdalene for while. LOL

It is very common for addiction to run in families. In the case of King David one of his sons was a love addict. This link takes you to the story. When King David forgives his son without punishing or confronting him he is being what I call a Christian codependent. I am codependent with my son so I totally get it.

Yikes! That story covers this week's lesson. It will be interesting to hear the commentary from the group, and the lecture afterwards. Yes, the Bible tells the story of the perils of love and sex addiction. For me the obsession is very high, and the fantasy that I romanticize the man is someone who he isn't.

I just listened to a superb message from Joyce Meyer on this subject. I hadn't been a huge fan in the past but this word was really very good and pertinent to us as Christian love addicts:

The sex crime committed sounds more like a sex addict rather than a love addiction in this case. I don't hear or even read stories about love addicts raping people.

And so much of it isn't even about sex but about power and violence
