IN LOVE ADDICTION WE | IN RECOVERY WE |
Fall for emotionally unavailable partners. | Slowly get to know someone and become friends before any talk of union. |
Fall for controlling individuals. | Recognize when someone is trying to control us and confront the issue head on. |
Fall for person addicted to other things. | Pay attention and not ignore someone’s addictions. |
Fall for selfish people. | Admit that the person is very self serving and that that would not be healthy for us. |
Fall for someone we think we can fix or take care of. | Recognize that we cannot change and or fix anyone. |
Obsess about someone usually because they are poor communicators. | Admit when someone we love is a poor communicator and make decisions for our well being. |
We allow ourselves to fantasize. | Work with God, a sponsor and each other to stop fantasizing which may involve NO CONTACT with people who bring on that behavior. |
We can be terrified of emotional intimacy. | Kindly, patiently and self lovingly work on emotional intimacy with others. |
We may involve ourselves with several romances and bond with each individual. | Involve ourselves with one person at a time in order to learn how to connect with someone on an intimate level. |
We may do anything to hold to our love interest. | Make a plan of things we will NOT DO to hold onto someone. |
We may break the law to hold on to someone. | Again make a plan of things we will NOT DO to hold onto someone. |
We may give money to someone to keep them. | Do not give or lend money in order to get love. |
