Controlling Techniques
The link below takes you to a video about the anxious attachment disorder. To deal with the anxiety the author says a love addict will police or monitor their partner. In my book, Addiction to Love, I call this controlling. Excerpt . . . "Once they are in an addictive relationship, love addicts want to make their dreams come true, diminish their fear or loneliness and abandonment, and avoid losing their partner. Controlling is how love addicts try to meet these needs. Most of the controlling techniques used in addictive relationships are passive-aggressive in nature (manipulative rather than direct demands for control)." 1. Image management 2. Nagging 3. Guilt tripping 4. Trying to make your partner jealous. 5. Flattery 6. Silent treatment 7. Sex 8. Codependent caretaking
