Low self-esteem hinders change. It saps people of the energy and courage they need to change. It also traps them in what I call “survival mode.” There is little room for thoughts of self-actualization (becoming the best person you can be), which requires taking risks, when you’re consumed with protecting what little self-esteem you already have.
