Relating compulsively loses its mystery when viewed as a driving but unconscious need to control in the present what was uncontrollable in our past. The more overwhelming the childhood experience(s), the greater the unconscious need-and compulsion to re-create the same emotionally changed climate or situation in adulthood and attempt to master it.
A far healthier and more same approach is to work on becoming willing to face whatever there is in our past that needs to be addressed and healed. When we are willing to face our past, our memories will begin unfolding as quickly as we are able to handle them.
Trust this.
As our buried history becomes part of our conscious awareness our actions that relate to it become more conscious too.
Where once there was a compulsion, now we have a choice. It may not be an easy choice because giving up old behavior patterns is uncomfortable. But when choice is possible to deliberately repeat unhealthy behavior becomes even more uncomfortable than giving it up.
