Hi, has anyone gotten a pet in order to help them with their LA or their self-esteem issues? I had wanted to get a cat since I moved into my new apartment a few months ago. I feel lost without an animal around. If there are any pet owners, what kind of pet do you have, and how does having an animal around help you to feel better on your down days?
I want to get a dog because dogs are more work than cats (lol), and I seem to be taking pretty good care of my cat. It feels good to be able to have something that, while it is dependent on you, gives you so much love and affection in return.

Emily, I don't have pets myself (I'm not a pet person , but I have heard people say that having a pet does help. Especially since pets are loyal and will love you no matter what (on your good days and bad!)

I raise German Shepherds and have two of them. They have helped me tremendously as I do alot of training with them as well as walk and excersise them daily. My little girl has especially been such a help as she seems to understand my emotions and would offer me love and support when I was hurting.

But dogs are so stinky and slobbery and needy! Cats all the way! I'm gonna be a crazy old dude with cats, but I'll have a leg up on meeting crazy old cat ladies! Hahah

My cats were so nice to love on and touch when I was in the darkest days after my break up. I would bring them on the couch and hold them and their soft fur brought me comfort. I love having pets. Dogs do require such more care and be lots of responsibility. Im for the cats...
