The 12 step programme is a 3 fold programme (physical, emotional, spiritual) which is based on spiritual principles. Each step addresses a principle. See my post under 12 steps of recovery to see "How do the steps work? ?" We see the programme as a 3 legged stool. All 3 facets or legs must be in balance or else we will topple over or come "unstuck". The Principles are: Step 1 Honesty step 2 Hope step 3 Faith step 4 Courage Step 5 Integrity Step 6 Willingness Step 7 Humility Step 8 Self Discipline Step 9 Love Step10 Perseverance Step11 Spiritual awareness Step12 Service
