There is a tapping technique I've become interested in, called the "Emotional Freedom Technique," or EFT. I learned about it from a "healing from narcissistic parents" message board. It's a combination of tapping on certain points on the body and eye movements. It sounds like it might be related to EMDR. You can do it with a therapist, or by yourself. Has anyone had experience with this? It's been used to treat PTSD and phobias. www.emofree.com/I've been very blocked and "stuck" about getting a job, and a career. I'm so anxious about it, that I sabotage myself to feel safe. I tried tapping on it, and a lot of emotions about my dad came up! My dad grew up in an alcoholic family during the depression. He criticized everything I did, and worse, he seemed disgusted or contemptuous towards me. I realized (while tapping) that while growing up, my dad always gave me the message that "I am worthless if I'm not working hard." And that "I am worthless if I'm not perfect." So I developed a lot of anxiety about doing anything! I became so terrified of being judged, I procrastinated about everything. I was never able to work hard enough or perfectly enough to please my dad. And then I projected my dad onto bosses and other authority figures. So I tried tapping on the emotions and beliefs I developed. I then tried tapping "in" positive affirmations. It seems to have helped a lot. I've been feeling a sense of kindness towards myself that I didn't have before. Does anyone have experience with EFT?

Hi- I remember you mentioned this when I brought up EMDR. Thanks for the reminder; I meant to go through the tutorial you suggested. Glad to hear it's effective for you!

Thanks, Courage! EFT sounds kinda goofy at first but it has helped me quite a bit. My favorite EFT guy on you tube is Brad Yates. He always has tapping videos that are positive and easy. Some practitioners don't use the eye movements, just the tapping. If I tap on deep issues (I "cured" myself from PTSD nightmares about my grandmother) it's very tiring. I end up feeling exhausted, and my eyes feel really achy and tired like I've processed a lot of emotion. What I like about EFT is that you can use it for easy and "fun" stuff, too. Like if I'm craving m&ms and I'm on a diet, I can tap on my cravings and they'll actually go away. I started out seeing a therapist who was also an EFT practitioner, but he was over $100. an hour! So I saw him for a few times, but I couldn't afford him more than that. So he lent me a video library of how to learn it myself.
