The Sacred Feminine
Susan Peabody
I am a woman, and I am drawn to feminine personality traits like humility, kindness, mercy, and wisdom. I also adore female imagery. I like to imagine spiritual beings as female even though I know that spiritual beings have no gender. In looking for a religion I am always on the lookout for the feminine aspects of their ideology. This is why I was a Quaker for fifteen years. They believe both men and women can be gifted with the responsibilities of a pastor or priest. When I moved on to a Protestant faith, it was because I wanted the sacraments of communion and baptism. Quakers do not believe in sacraments. But, unfortunately, the Protestants do not honor the sacred feminine. They are very patriarchal. One of the reasons I am now moving toward Catholicism is becuase they do honor the sacred feminine. They revere Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the Catholic church is considered the “bride of Christ,” which is a very femine image. Attachments:
