Catholicism & the Supernatural
Susan Peabody
Since I found God in 1982, I have always believed in the existence of the supernatural, so naturally I was pleased to find out that my new faith (Catholicism) believes in the supernatural. Christ did supernatural things when he healed the sick and blind and was then resurrected. The appearance of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was supernatural and was the deciding factor when the disciples were trying to understand everything that had happened. In the beginning, everything was supernatural until science came along. Planting a seed and watching it grow into corn was considered supernatural until science analyzed the process and brought it to the attention of the world. Then, it was no longer an act of God but just science. Today, the supernatural is the existence of something that seems outside the realm of science and is therefore considered an oddity. Factor in the idea that God is responsible, anc a supernatural occurrence becomes Grace. I first believed in the supernatural when I experienced it. I have documented the grace granted to me in my book God Stories. The Protestants have stopped believing in the supernatural when it comes to communion. They believe it is just a symbol. They do believe that God can answer our prayers with miracles. Everyone has a right to believe in the supernatural, or not, but when you do believe it brings you hope that God can do anything and therefore aligning ourselves with God is important and has many benefits.
