Dear John:
From the Pope: “Those American groups you talk about, so closed, are isolating themselves. Instead of living by doctrine, by the true doctrine that always develops and bears fruit, [faith in Jesus] they live by ideologies. When you abandon doctrine [Catholicism] in life to replace it with an ideology [ideas about life], you have lost, you have lost as in war”, he said.
From Susan: This is complicated. I am curious about what he means by "ideologies." I think he is referring to groups that promote a way to heal or be happy without faith. The Hindus and Buddhists have no faith in deity for example. People who believe in a "group of drunks," have an ideology in AA, but lack faith in Jesus. Psychology is an ideology that has no faith in Jesus. More University has many ideologies but lack faith in Jesus Christ.
I think at this point of my life I am combining faith and ideologies like you. But, if I had to choose, I would choose faith and Jesus over ideologies. Take care.
