The Metamorphosis of a TermSusan Peabody Carl Jung created the term and the concept of the Divine Child. It inspired Eric Berne to create the concept of Transactional Analysis. Below is a list of the changes that have taken place since then.
Divine Child (Carl Jung) Child Ego State (Berne) Parent Ego State (Berne) Adult Ego State (Berne) Inner Child (Harris) Wounded Inner Child (Bradshaw) Playful Inner Child (Whitfield) Outer Child (Andersen) Angry Teenager (unknown) The Out of Control Inner Child (Peabody) The Eternal Child WithinYou came to me one day, Mysterious and old. We spoke of your childhood— Of the wind that blew cold Across your path In the winter of despair; When you felt so alone As if God wasn't there. Then we played together In the dim candlelight. You were so happy, All aglow with delight, To have found your way home To the one you adored. Shown the way, of course, By our Savior the Lord. Now, my dear child, My tender soul, You bring me such joy. With you I am whole. For I am nothing Without all my parts; Without the sweet voice Of my inner child's tender heart.
