Switzerland
Susan Peabody
I have always wanted to travel, but I never had the money. So, I watched movies about exotic locations and was satisfied with that. Then, one day, my pastor said, “Susan, what would you like to do if you could do anything you want?” I quickly blurted out that I would like to travel. “Well pray for that,” he said. “Can I do that?” I asked. He smiled and said, “God loves you and he wants to fulfill your dreams.”
A few months later, I received an email from a man in Switzerland. His name was Sebastian. He told me he needed some help. So, I told him we could meet on Zoom. “You don’t understand,” he said, “I want you to come to Switzerland. I will pay for everything.”My heart leaped for joy, but then I admitted to him that I was afraid to fly. He laughed and said, “Well, you will have to get over that.”
That night I thanked God for this opportunity and I asked him to take away my fear of flying. A week later I packed my bag and went to the airport. Unfortunately, God did not take away my fear of flying so I had to take a deep breath and get on the plane.
Sebastian had arranged for me to fly first class so the trip was wonderful. There was great food and God put me into a seat next to a very nice man who reassured me that the plane was not going to crash. “Ok,” I said.
I arrived in Switzerland and Sebastian picked me up at the airport. Then he took me to dinner and drove me to my hotel. “It’s the nicest one in Switzerland,” he said with a grin on his face.
At dinner we went over our schedule. Sebastian informed me that each morning I would talk to him and each afternoon we would go sightseeing. “I will also pay you $250 a day,” he added. I was in shock, but I nodded my head.
For the next ten days we talked, Sebastian cried, and we went on great adventures. We went to old churches and had coffee everyday at quaint little coffee shops. One day, Sebastian took me for a carriage ride with four beautiful horses. I felt like I was in a movie.
On the eighth day, I told Sebastian that a lot of what I was teaching him came from Carl Jung. He said, “Would you like to go see the house he lived in?” “Yes,” I replied. We went the next day and it was wonderful.
On the ninth day I was telling Sebastian that my favorite book as a child was about a little girl who inspired a young boy to walk again. The name of the book was Heidi. “Would you like to go see the village where the author lived?” he asked me. Nothing surprised me at this point so I said, “yes.”
On the last day of my trip I was so happy. Sebastian told me how much I had helped him and how nice I was to come all the way to Switzerland to help him. Amazing, I thought to myself. God must really love me to give me this gift.
I went home in a trance. I had just come back from the adventure of a lifetime. The pastor was right. It is okay to pray for things that make you happy. Sometimes your prayers will be answered and sometimes they won’t, but usually when a prayer is not answered then it would not have made you happy in the first place.
Let me end by saying that sometimes your dreams are too small. When I was child all I wanted was to get married. Instead God made me a published author and sent me to Switzerland. God is good. I hope all your dreams come true as well
