If you are looking for a long-term relationship, the most important thing to look for is availability. This is not always apparent. ▪ Some people think they are available, and tell you this, but are actually ambivalent. As a result they come and go leaving you to believe if you hang in there they will come around and be the person you want them to be. ▪ Some people will tell you they are unavailable, but you don’t believe them because you are so attracted to them. ▪ Some people will lie about being available to get what they want from you. It is important to look at your date’s history and for red flags. In the beginning a date should be like an interview. Set your attraction aside and focus on the kind of person you are meeting. How do they treat you? If you are at a restaurant pay attention to how they treat your server. In the beginning, it is important to be skeptical rather than being blinded by your attraction. At the same time, ask yourself if you are available. Many people want a long-term relationship but are afraid to commit or go for the duration.
