Gratitude
When I got to my first recovery program I had no gratitude. I was addicted to self-pity and saw myself as a victim. When I did my first personal inventory, I discovered that I had made decisions that put me in a position to be hurt. I took responsibility for my life. A gratitude list is a list of things you are grateful for. It is meant to be an antecdote to self-pity and a mood elevator. Gratitude is not a feeling; it is an attitude that you adopt. You make a decision to be grateful. Taken to its fullest extent we are asked to be grateful for both the good and the bad, because the bad, no matter how painful, is part of character building.
