The Pros & Cons of Romantic Love
Susan Peabody
▪ Romantic love can enhance our relationship, but it can blind us to serious faults in our prospective lover. ▪ Romantic love can help us overcome our fear of intimacy, but it can drive us crazy if not reciprocated. ▪ Romantic love promises us that it will last forever, but it always wanes in time. ▪ Romantic love is wonderful, but with insecure people it can become addictive. ▪ Romantic love is exciting, but unrequited romantic love can really devastate us. ▪ Romantic love feels great; but it can become more important that other important things (children, career, self-care). ▪ Romantic love is promoted by the media (movies and books), but what actually happened after Cinderella married Prince Charming? ▪ Romantic love is important, but is it worth dying for? ▪ Romantic love is great, but compatibility is more stable and long-lasting. ▪ Romantic love is exciting, but it is not the same as healthy emotional intimacy. ▪ Romantic love is okay, but with some people it can lead to "crimes of the heart." Because in this modern era we are slowly idealizing romantic love more and more, we are in danger. Attachments:
