I am both codependant and a love addict. The SLAA and Coda meetings are spot on for my situation. I don't have a sponsor for my SLAA meeting but someone has reached out to help me in anyway with Coda. I'm still pretty new to all this. Does it matter which 12-step I start out with. Can a person do more than one 12-step at a time. At my Coda meeting today someone said "at the heart of every addiction is codependancy" If that's the case, should I do the Coda 12-step first and then SLAA?

I did them concurrently. I used both books as guides. And my sponsor is experienced in both. They are very similar so I think you will do fine doing both at the same time.

Yes, it does matter. Do them from 1 to 12. Don't skip steps. They are designed to take you through birth, teen years, adulthood. They are building blocks that should not be skipped. We LAs already skipped a lot of steps to begin with. It's what got us in trouble in the first place. Don't skips steps.

@lovelyjune: "We LAs already skipped a lot of steps to begin with. It's what got us in trouble in the first place. Don't skips steps. " -That made me laugh! How true! Thanks!

I work more than one 12 step programs. I think it's fine to do 2 at once (necessary, even) but make sure to keep them separate and do the steps in order. Great that you got a CoDA one, try for one in SLAA too. nice work!

I re-read this and it is my understanding that you're deciding which 12 step GROUP to do first, not which STEP to start with, right?
Start with whichever comes up first, like i said!

Thank you all for your responses. Happy, yes I meant 12-step group. I've updated the title of the question. I will try and do both at the same time!
